WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE AT WHIPPOORWILL RETREAT:
Upon arrival you are provided a golf cart that will take you along a beautiful, scenic path to Whippoorwill Retreat treehouse. It is nestled in the center of nine acres of a pristine Whippoorwill habitat. This is a "true" treehouse as you will find it supported by trees that extend all the way through both floors.
This treehouse is laced with history, and unique charm which is incorporated into numerous features throughout. The main support beam and all of the beautiful board and batten siding came from 50+ year old Southern Yellow Pine trees from the owner’s property. Additionally, the owners have incorporated numerous amenities that will help you to fully relax during your stay.
No need to worry about how you will get your belongings up in the treehouse. Just pull the golf cart next to “Donald the Butler" (dumb waiter/luggage lift/closet) to unload your luggage/groceries, go inside, press and hold a button and up it comes loaded with everything in place ready for your stay. Upon departure, press the button and down it goes ready for your trip home.
As you park the golf cart, you will see the entry courtyard where you will find a cozy fire pit with seating. You bring the stories and music; we provide the s’mores! Next you will walk up an easy handicap accessible ramp to the foyer where you are greeted with a basket full of welcome goodies from the local area.
Once in the foyer, you will see two trees that extend through both floors of the treehouse. Upon passing through the trees, you are greeted with a spectacular view through floor to ceiling glass which is supported with live edge beams from a 150-year-old Eastern Red Cedar tree. The tree was originally from the nearby Chickamauga National Battlefield area. After being cut down by the power company, the owners obtained the tree, and wanted to preserve the history of the tree using it as several main features in the treehouse. In addition to the supports, you will see this tree utilized as countertops, shelves, stair treads, and frames.
After catching your breath from the view, to your right, you will find a suspended full-size bed featuring a headboard that was up-cycled from an antique babies’ bed. The bed is finished with a luxury memory foam mattress and topped with an electric mattress pad heater and hotel quality sheets. At the end of the suspended bed behind the barn door, you'll see "Donald the Butler" fully loaded and ready for use. To your left, is a full bath featuring an overhead rain shower. This area is surrounded by shoulder height windows creating a relaxing outdoor feel in the forest canopy.
Straight ahead, is a fully stocked coffee bar that includes, creamer and sugar. Just around the corner, is the kitchen featuring an antique icebox which is used for cabinets and houses a small ice maker. Also, in the kitchen you will find a microwave oven, an under-counter refrigerator/freezer, toaster, and a small dishwasher. A full array of spices is provided in the kitchen table drawer (note that oil is not provided). On the top shelf of Donald you will find an electric griddle, hot plate, along with pots and pans just waiting to help you with that morning pancakes and bacon breakfast. Whippoorwill Retreat offers “dining with a view” at a unique antique enamel, expandable table that is nestled next to the floor to ceiling glass front.
The living area features a leather recliner double love seat, and antique chair from The Read House Historic Inn located in downtown Chattanooga. The chair maintains its original fabric and finish. This area is just begging for you to enjoy the view while relaxing with a book, watching TV, surfing the web, or taking a long nap.
The full front glass along with the numerous windows that brings the outdoors in does get chilly when the temperature gets in the twenties. Therefore, a gas heater, cozy sherpa blankets, and space heaters, are provided to assist the heat pump for those extra cold days. Additionally, both beds are equipped with mattress pad heaters to keep you toasty warm and make for extra long lazy mornings.
The stairs lead up to the Canopy Suite bedroom which houses a queen size bed with a handcrafted cedar headboard and is fitted with a luxury memory foam mattress topped with electric mattress pad heater and hotel quality sheets. The suite provides a step-out porch with a clear roof. The bedroom’s main feature is the four foot by six-foot overhead view of the sky right over the bed. No need for candlelight when you’ve got the stars and moon to provide the romance.
Outside the kitchen door is the wrap-around porch that leads to a large outdoor living area perch, and a sunrise/moonrise perch. To the front of the treehouse you can enjoy a complimentary hot cup of coffee as you watch the sunrise, or a glass of complimentary Georgia wine as you watch the moon rise. Enjoy dinner in the treetops on the large perch, then enjoy a nightcap as you gently sway on the loveseat glider.
Once you are settle in, just tell Alexa you are ready to use the outdoor antique soaking tubs and she will set them to fill. Use the Whippoorwill Retreat luxurious robe and take home slippers to make your way out to the tubs for an outdoor spa experience. You are provided with the Whippoorwill Retreat scent bath salts and space to set your wine glass, along with Alexa that will play music of your choice. When you are finished, just tell Alexa to drain the tubs and she will even "pull the plug" for you!
From sunrise to moonrise and everywhere in between, Whippoorwill retreat provides you a place to relax and enjoy the views with family and friends.
